AMIR Launches Consumer Rights Awareness Campaign Focused on Financial Services in SERVE Project Districts

Association of Microfinances Institutions in Rwanda (AMIR), through the SERVE Project, in collaboration with Rwanda Inspectorate, Competition and Consumer Protection Authority (RICA) and ADECOR Rwanda, supported by SACCOs and MFIs, launched an awareness campaign on Consumer Rights, with a particular focus on Consumer Rights in accessing financial services. The campaign will take place throughout the week in Rulindo, Nyabihu, Kayonza, and Kirehe districts.

The campaign underscores the critical role of financial service users in environmental protection, aligning with this year’s theme: “Driving Consumer Actions: Safeguarding a Green and Clean Environment.” Through sensitization sessions, farmers and other consumers are being educated on their financial rights, while also drawing attention to the link between agriculture, environmental protection, and sustainability.

Yesterday, the team received a warm welcome from Mukandayisenga Antoinette, the Mayor of the District and the Vice Mayor in Charge of Social Affairs.

The Mayor of Nyabihu commended the initiative, acknowledging its importance in empowering consumers with knowledge about their rights. He also highlighted the need to educate traders on their obligations, such as proper price display, ensuring products are not expired, and issuing invoices.

In addition to raising awareness, the team introduced newly developed Agri-financial products tailored for SERVE Project participants. These products will be offered through 40 SERVE Partner Microfinance Institutions across 10 districts involved in the SERVE Project.

An interactive open discussion followed, providing participants with an opportunity to ask questions and share insights regarding their consumer rights, particularly in financial matters.

The campaign will continue until Friday, March 21, 2025, with the main celebration for World Consumer Rights Day scheduled for March 28, 2025.
