The Association of Microfinance Institutions in Rwanda (AMIR) was created in June 2007 as a professional non-profit organization governed by the law governing the organization and the functioning of national non-governmental organizations in Rwanda. It took over assets and liabilities of the former Rwanda Microfinance Forum as a going concern.
AMIR is legally recognized as a professional association by the Ministry of Labour, and its statutes were published in the official gazette no. 6 of 15 March 2008. AMIR is the umbrella body for microfinance institutions in Rwanda that seeks to build capacity in the microfinance industry in the country.
